Effective air purification in eight steps:
1. Horizontal suction
Suction of polluted indoor air by low-noise and energy-efficient high-performance DC fan.
2. Pre-filter
The pre-filter captures larger dust particles and other pollutants, such as pet hair and dander.
3. TRUE HEPA (H13) filter
The TRUE HEPA (H13) filter purifies 99.97% of all suspended matter down to 0.3 micrometres (0.3 µm) from the air. The HEPA filter is the most effective air filter for removing: dust/fine dust, allergens and other solid particles.
4. Active carbon filter
The active carbon filter effectively filters gases, chemicals, cigarette smoke, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and odours from indoor air.
5. Tio2 photocatalytic filter
This filter can effectively reduce chemicals, bacteria and odours. The photocatalytic filter works in combination with the UV-C LED lamp, creating a particularly powerful bacteria and virus-killing effect.
6. UV-C LED Lamp
The lamp's ultraviolet light (UV-C radiation) with a wavelength of 254nm kills harmful micro-organisms such as: germs, viruses (SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19), mould (spores) and bacteria. What’s more, micro-organisms that have collected in the device are destroyed. This prevents them from multiplying and being distributed through the airflow in the room. Of all light rays, UV-C light has the highest frequency and shortest wavelength and therefore also contains the highest amount of energy which, through its radiation, penetrates the organism's outer membrane and destroys the DNA. With thousands of units of this type installed worldwide, the integrated UV-C technology has proven UV-C radiation to be highly effective against pathogenic viruses, bacteria and single-cell organisms. By applying UV-C light, microbiological inactivation rates of 99.99% and higher can be achieved.
7. Ioniser ozone-free DIN EN 60335-2-65
Two ionisers with a total capacity of > 2,000,000 negative ions / cm³ that are dispersed throughout the room, neutralising harmful substances and odours. Negative ions attach themselves to dust particles, microorganisms and other undesirable substances in the air and bind them together. These particles become heavier than the air in this way and drop down or are filtered out of the air by the air purifier.
8. Purified air
Clean, healthy breathing air flows out of the air purifier into the indoor space.

Use and maintenance
Cleaning and replacing filters
The Clean Air Optima® HEPA UV Desktop/Car ioniser air purifier CA-501 is equipped with a filter life monitoring mechanism that indicates that the combination filter should be replaced after 400 working hours. To indicate that the combination filter (Pre-filter, TRUE HEPA (H13) filter, Active carbon filter and TiO2 photocatalytic filter) needs to be replaced, the indicator light (colour display) of the air purifier starts flashing in red for 5 seconds. Double-click the power button after replacing the filter. This resets the change filter timer.
Depending on use, the combination filter should be replaced every 2 months.
Signs of used-up filters: increased noise level, decreased airflow, clogged filter and increased presence of odours. The HEPA filter must be replaced with a new one if it changes colour from white to grey or black. The HEPA filter does NOT need to be replaced if it remains white.
For optimal effect, the permanent pre-filter on the combination filter in the Clean Air Optima® HEPA UV Desktop/Car ioniser air purifier CA-501 can be cleaned monthly in between with a soft brush or your vacuum cleaner (see air purifier CA-501 manual).
Warning
Never wet or rinse the combination filter with water.
Using essential oils
For aromatherapy, only the Clean Air Optima® essential oils developed for air purifiers can be used.
The use of other essential oils or additives not developed for air purifiers may damage the device! Units damaged by such additives are not covered by warranty.
